Ways to Invest in LFA

The Annual Fund is the engine that drives so many of our curricular and extracurricular programs and has a huge impact on the day-to-day experience of the girls. Contributing is a great way to support LFA’s highest priorities. Please note that all gifts received by December 31 will provide you with an income tax receipt for the year that the gift was received.

For more information please contact Ben Fitch, Director of Advancement at 604.738.9016 ext. 104 or FitchB@lfabc.org

Gifts of Stock and Securities
Many people who own stock that has appreciated over the years will know that there will be significant capital gains tax when the stocks are sold. An excellent alternative is to gift that stock to LFA, turning a potential tax bill into a tax deduction. See the example below.

For instructions on making gifts of stock or appreciated securities, please view this document. You may also contact Ben Fitch, Director of Advancement at 604.738.9016 ext. 104 or FitchB@lfabc.org

  • Gift of Securities: An Illustrative Example

Mrs. Smith would like to donate $50,000 to Little Flower Academy. Mrs. Smith owns publicly listed shares worth $50,000, which she originally purchased for $10,000. What are the tax advantages for giving the gift as securities rather than selling the asset and giving LFA the same gift as cash?

Gifts in Memoriam and in Honour of
These gifts provide lasting recognition for family, friends or colleagues or to mark special occasions such as a graduation, birthday, wedding or anniversary.

In both cases, these gifts convey a depth of emotion and a sense of connection to the recipient. LFA takes special care with such gifts. The donor is sent an acknowledgement letter and the recipient is notified in writing. Dollar amounts are not revealed, only the sentiment. For gifts that memorialize a passing, the family is notified.

By making such a gift, you not only memorialize and honour those who deserve recognition, but you invest in the future of a community with which the gift recipient has a strong and positive association.

For more information please contact Connie Sabo, Advancement Officer at 604-738-9016 ext. 106 or SaboC@lfabc.org.

Gifts-in-Kind or Gifts of Personal Property

The acceptance of gifts-in-kind is made on a case-by-case basis. The primary criterion is that the gift furthers the school’s mission. The school is legally prohibited from appraising gifts of personal property. For donations worth $1,000 or more, the donor must provide an independent third-party appraisal from a qualified professional. For more information, please contact Ben Fitch, Director of Advancement at 604-738-9016 ext. 104 or FitchB@lfabc.org.

Named Funds
Would you like to commemorate a special teacher, family member or classmate? A named, endowed fund allows donors to recognize the special role LFA has played in their lives. The story behind a funds’ creation are often poignant and compelling. Perhaps you are an alumna who wishes to memorialize a parent or friend. Maybe you’d like to celebrate a classmate’s memory by offering educational opportunities to future students. Each endowed gift to LFA provides a unique legacy.

The minimum gift to endow a bursary or specific purpose fund is $25,000. Please contact Ben Fitch at 604-738-9016 ext. 104 or FitchB@lfabc.org to discuss the process of establishing a named fund.
