Eustace de Souza was an amazing volunteer for our LFA field hockey program. For a decade after his daughter (Sachi De Souza '01) graduated, Eustace remained a dedicated volunteer coach on LFA's top team. Working with Ali McGillivray, the two coaches oversaw the most successful years of field hockey in school history, winning three Provincial Championships and finishing in the top three at Provincials a remarkable nine times.
For all the on-field success, Mr. de Souza is most remembered most for his calm, gentlemanly approach to coaching and his kind, supportive interactions with student athletes. His approach to coaching and his love for the game helped to create a positive environment that inspired athletes to keep playing field hockey into adulthood.
Eustace de Souza Memorial Field Hockey Scholarship
Mr. de Souza passed away in late January, 2021. At the request of the family, LFA is very pleased to establish the Eustace de Souza Memorial Field Hockey Scholarship. The award will be given to an LFA student, playing at LFA, who exhibits qualities that reflect values that Eustace demonstrated daily as a coach at LFA for over a decade: respectful leadership, exemplary sportsmanship, kindness towards teammates, determination to improve at field hockey, and an understanding that school and one's studies are always the top priority.
