With the success of our inagural Grandparent Day in 2013, we had to scrap our original idea of hosting a Grandparent Day every other year. Thus, we were very excited to host our second Grandparent Day this April in conjunction with Drs. Bob and Marilyn Westbury who gave generously to host the lunch for the more than 200 grandparents who joined us.
One of the elements that make Little Flower such an exceptional place to be is the sense of community that exists. Dedicating our April Mass to our grandparent community is an opportunity to welcome those who might otherwise have very little exposure to their granddaughters' daily experience. It is a day for our students to celebrate grandparents and share with them their school.
The format of the day is quite simple. Grandparents (or, in some instances "grand-friends") are welcomed to our school liturgy. Each guest is invited to sit with their granddaughter and celebrate Mass together. They get to enjoy the nuances that make and LFA Mass special, which very much includes the singing throughout. The pride amongst our student community was on full display throughout. After Mass, we took the opportunity to showcase our amazing Choir with a short performance for our guests. It was beautiful.
We concluded with some very brief welcome speeches and encouraged the girls to tour their grandparents through their school. The community finally gathered in the Dining Hall for some lovely food and refreshment. Sharing a meal together is such an important part of community and the sense of enjoyment was palpable.
In a school like ours, these sorts of events are very much made possible by the generous support of our community. Not only did we receive a gift from Bob and Marilyn in support of the event, but we received many gifts from the community out of the event to the Annual Fund. These gifts directly impacted the operation of the school the girls' education.
