Teaching the Teachers

What does that look like for teachers? Largely this past year it has been locally-based conference and seminar opportunities. The learning has been broad-based, giving faculty in every department the opportunity to develop their craft. It also means that every girl will have experienced the benefits. But the benefit extends beyond a dynamic and current classroom experience for the girls: it's also key to invest in our teachers as strategic pillar of staff retention.

Some examples of the learning opportunities for our teachers include Advanced Placement program conferences for the English department teachers. French professional development for our Modern Languages teachers. There's been first aid training certification for some faculty and specific coaching seminars for others. Our continued investment in the Counselling Department saw that the counsellors accessed workshops on diverse non-academic issues like anxiety and university applications. The Fine Art Department was given the opportunity for both a visual arts teacher's conference and choral courses while the Science Department took advantage of the local academic community hosting a conference on neuroplasticity and education.
